  • Acute dehydration
  • Burns
  • Infections

Diagnosis of acute kidney disease

The patient needs to know the principal cause of acute renal failure. People who see any symptom of sign linked with acute kidney failure need to get relevant kidney function tests done, which are as follow:

  1. Blood tests - It helps to check the level of urea and waste in the blood to measure the level of kidney function or GFR.
  2. Imaging tests - include ultrasound to see whether there is any change in the structure of kidneys.
  3. Urine tests - By checking the level of different compounds in urine, a doctor can detect the stage of kidney damage.
  4. Measurement of urine output - By measuring the urine output in 24 hours, a doctor can get to know the exact cause of acute renal failure.

Physical examination

Many people with acute renal failure have no symptoms. Even with signs, they are nonspecific, and different conditions can cause them. A physical diagnostic reveals all kinds of abnormal findings. The condition of kidney failure is often diagnosed through a blood or urine test. If even after diagnosis and laboratory tests, the problem stays unidentified, an ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder is done to help reveal signs of specific causes of kidney dysfunction. In some cases, tissue samples of the kidneys are taken, the process is known as kidney biopsy to find the cause of the renal failure.
