High Serum Creatinine: Management & Treatment in Ayurveda!

What is creatinine?

It is a waste product that comes from normal wear and tears our muscles of the body. Creatinine is the product found in everyone’s bloodstream. It doesn’t have any specific physiological function. It merely stays in the blood until reaching the kidney, where it’s filtered and eliminated through urination.

How the body generates creatinine?

It starts with creatine, which is further synthesized in the kidneys, pancreas, and liver. It is transported via blood flow and stored in your skeletal muscles. While the excreting process starts, these muscles convert creatinine. After this whole process, your muscles creatine to energy, which assists in muscle contraction. After this whole process, your muscles creatine becomes creatinine. It re-enters the bloodstream en-route to the kidneys, but it doesn’t harm your body. Creatinine in your blood is measured to evaluate your kidney health. The average level of creatinine depends on race, age, gender, and body size. Once these values are normalized, changes from this range can signify abnormalities of the kidney.

There are two levels of creatinine are-

1. High level
2. Low level

If you currently have any kidney disease, kidney damage, diabetes, or another illness that affects your kidney. You must check your renal function through the prevalent tests, i.e., urine and blood.

Blood tests – creatinine that comes from your blood called serum creatinine. This blood test tells your glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is vital in diagnosing kidney failure.

Urine tests – the other common way to test the creatinine level through a 24-hour urine collection. This test is done to check your glomerular filtration rate (GFR) with the presence of urine.

Blood urea nitrogen(BUN) – this test is not mandatory if your blood and urine reports are adverse. Still, if your health care finds any doubt on any of your reports, then he/she will order to do this test. It is the final test that discloses your kidney condition. In this test, your urea nitrogen should be measured to know the final condition.

Can creatinine level changes?

Yes, your creatinine level changes even rapidly. A sudden spike in creatinine levels could be a warning sign for acute kidney damage or other conditions; it depends on the symptoms and the condition of the patient.
